FAQ 1: the basics
WHAT is GRAVITY?
- On Symbian S60 phones it’s THE premier Twitter app. But it’s so much more than that.
- Additionally, limited access is enabled in alpha versions at the time of creating the FAQ, to:
StatusNet, Facebook, Google Reader & Foursquare, Ping.fm (prefix tweet with a p). Post tweeted URLs to Delicious, Instapaper, Read-it-Later. Post images to MobyPicture, Posterous, Twitgoo, Yfrog, img.ly and to your Twitter profile, and, in limited form, to Flickr.
—–
WHO wrote the app?
- Jan Ole Suhr:
- twitter: http://www.twitter.com/janole
- email: ole@mobileways.de
- If you really, really HAVE to email or tweet him, be very specific about your problem.
—–
WHERE can I get the app from?
- The Nokia Ovi Store. (this link might break, please search for Gravity.)
- And other carefully-selected outlets.
- PLEASE note that the trial version you initially install, unless you bought it from the Ovi store, is time-limited software. It’s not crippled, there’s nothing stopping you installing the latest alpha version.
—–
HOW can I INSTALL ON E-Series phones?
- Open the App Manager.
- Look through your phone’s settings until you can find one that lets you change ‘Accept Applications’ to ‘All’.
—–
WHY should I INSTALL it?
- Because it’s the best Symbian S60 twitter app. It’s GORGEOUS!
—–
HOW do I go ONLINE with Gravity?
- Before you start using the app you MUST create an account online with whichever service you require. Using a web browser would help greatly, as would remembering the username and password you used to create the account.
- Open the app.
- Do you see the button labelled ‘Online’?
- Press it.
Usually, when you’ve created an account, it automatically connects the app to your online service.
—–
HOW do I ADD an account to Gravity?
- Open the app.
- Do you see the button labelled ‘Add Account …’?
- Press it.
- Carefully read what it says on the screen.
—–
HOW do I TWEET or, for example, ADD A POST to Facebook?
- From the Accounts screen, press the button of the service you require.
- Start typing.
- Really, that’s it.
You might initially, and rightly, think it’s not intuitive but it saves a *lot* of time when you get familiar with the app.
—–
HOW do I DELETE an account?
- Highlight it on the Accounts screen.
- On phones with keypads, press the C button (the delete/backspace key not the “c” character.) On touchscreen phones, click and hold for a second or 2 -when you release dialogue pops up.
- Carefully read what it says on the screen.
—–
How do I RESET an account?
- Note, accounts work differently, there may be documentation elsewhere on the web.
- For a Read-it-Later account, send ‘r -’, without the quote marks.
- For an Instapaper account, send ‘i -’, without the quote marks.
—–
WHAT happens if I have PROBLEMS?
- Firstly, remember that whilst Gravity is a stable app when initially downloaded, the temptation to install the latest alpha to take advantage of its many enhancements will mount until you succumb to temptation. At this point you must realise that it is alpha software. Don’t expect to have a totally trouble-free ride.
- Give feedback.
- Install a later version.
—–
WHAT PROBLEMS am I likely to encounter?
- Incomplete access to a service. Remember that Gravity started life as a twitter app. The extra service’s modules are currently evolving, usually in response to user demand. The term ‘alpha’ you notice when installing updates means you are effectively testing the app. Think of it as something for almost nothing. Give feedback to its author – he’s given you ‘something’ so the least you can do is give him back the ‘almost nothing.’
—–
WHERE can I get more HELP and give FEEDBACK?
- Using your shiny new app, you could follow, or create a search for:
#Gravity
@janole
@mobileways (these 3 are ‘official.’) - Look here: http://gravity.uservoice.com/
- Your issue will almost certainly have been seen and commented upon already.
- As a last resort you could email the program author (see above.)
